We would like to share some updates and information with you from our Virtual Head Quarters. The starting signal of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009 is rapidly approaching. On saturday 8 teams will head off into the open ocean for nine months. The Virtual race will be just a little bit bigger... Some statistics We're overwhelmed by the number of players that have signed on so far and would like to share some statistics with you.
We've just opened the gates of the Virtual Marina. Get on your boats, set your colours and trim your sails. It's no racing yet but a chance to try out the controls so you're well trained when the real thing hits off. We're official so we're using the official Volvo open 70 Polars Do we have to sail all legs? Ranking will be calculated on the first nine legs with the worst three deducted. So no you don't have to sail them all but it will sure increase your chances of winning the VolvoC30. Can we expect more functionality in the future? Yes! We are committed in delivering the best gameplay and will be adding new stuff during the race. We'll communicate these on the site as well as in emails. Can we change our Yacht name? Unfortunately no. Yacht names symbolize your own unique identity, how everyone will recognize you, this is something not even easily changed in real life. We're constantly making the game better Tell a Friend We just added a new feature which allows you to invite your friends, colleagues, family or sailing buddies to get into the race as well. Just click the Tell-A-Friend button and you'll see how it works. » Tell your friends about the game! Search players Hidden in the depths of your My Account page, under Friends we've added a function to search other players by Yacht name or even e-mail address. This way you can find your friends and see how they are doing in the race. Ask for invite into this group We've also recently added a new feature where you can ask a group to invite you into their group. You can use this by going to the group profile of the group you'd like to join and click the [Ask for invite into this group] button. The group owner will then receive a message where he or she can choose to either accept or decline your request.
Saturday at 13.00 CET the official race and virtual race will start. Be sure to log on prior to the start so you can guess the winner of the first leg.
